Which Stone Is Best for Kitchen Countertops: Quartz, Granite, or Marble?

It can be tough deciding between quartz, granite, and marble countertops. Preferences, opinions, and practicality make it difficult to know which stone to choose. Our Stonesmiths, Inc. team guides Indianapolis customers through the process of selecting the perfect material for their new countertops.

Quartz

Quartz is growing in popularity and becoming the hot new kitchen trend. Homeowners choose quartz for its durability and ease of care. It is mined, crushed, and fused with resin binders to create a solid stone slab.  Because they are engineered in a lab, quartz countertops can be highly customized. In addition, quartz is non-porous, low maintenance, and resistant to scratches, chips, and stains.

Granite

Granite countertops are classic, beautiful, and unique. Mining teams extract the stone from quarries around the world, resulting in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Although durable and long-lasting, granite requires occasional sealing to prevent stains. Regardless, granite countertops add incredible value to your home because of their quality and appeal.

Marble

Marble creates an elegant and sophisticated look that is hard to compete with. Every slab contains unique color patterns, seams, and veins. We recommend that customers come to our showroom to select the exact slab they want for their project. While marble is highly valued, we do not recommend it for use in kitchens because it is a softer stone that makes it more prone to scratches and chips. Marble is resistant to water, however, and is great for bathroom projects, fireplace surrounds, offices, and more.
