Countertops

Looking for Low-Maintenance Countertops? Try Quartz or Glass.

High-traffic kitchens need durable, low-maintenance countertops. Not sure what material best suits your style and budget? Not to worry! Stonesmiths Inc. fabricates and installs countertops throughout the Indianapolis area. We will help you select the right countertop material for your needs.

Low-Maintenance Countertop Materials

Nowadays, fast-paced lifestyles have folks on the hunt for low-maintenance countertop materials. Homeowners want attractive custom countertops that don’t stain, chip, require frequent sealing, or show fingerprints easily. Typically, for clients on the hunt for low-maintenance countertops, we recommend the following two materials:

1. Quartz

If low-maintenance is your goal, quartz is hard to beat. Quartz countertops are lab-manufactured under intense heat and pressure. This process results in an incredibly tough solid-surface countertop that is non-porous, scratch-resistant, and stain-resistant. The only maintenance these countertops require is a routine wipe-down with mild soap and water.

2. Glass

Similarly, glass countertops are equally durable and require little maintenance. Glass comes in a variety of textures and colors, all of which are completely non-porous. This means that glass is extremely hygienic and almost impossible to stain. Likewise, glass counters are virtually impervious to heat. While it is possible to crack glass countertops if something heavy is placed on a corner, surface damage is rare.

Color and Texture Choices

Selecting the right color, pattern, and texture for your new countertops is equally as important as choosing the right material. For example, if you wish to conceal smudges and spills, consider the following options:

  • Variegated quartz – Solid-color countertops tend to show smudges, spills, and crumbs more readily than a variegated surface. Choose a slab with flecks or swirls of color to hide crumbs, smudges, etc.
  • Textured and/or patterned glass – Clear, polished glass requires more frequent cleaning to maintain a glossy appearance. Alternatively, textured glass is more forgiving. Likewise, swirled countertops or counters made from crushed glass make smudges, dust, and debris more difficult to detect.
